In January 2011, the Butler Museum closed its doors. What began was a four year major structural renovation of the 1889 railroad station which was done in stages. All of the artifacts in the museum were inventoried, bubble wrapped, and packed in storage boxes. For four years, those boxes were moved and stacked from one room to another while work was being completed.

In 2014 and in 2015, the boxes were opened, the contents organized by theme or collection, new display cabinets were purchased, exhibit room designs decided and laid out, and the unpacking began. In October 2015, the Butler Museum reopened in time to participate in the Pathways of History Weekend over Columbus Day. It was such a pleasure to welcome guests to the museum again.
